Wheels squeak, drag or feel gritty
Squeaking and rough-rolling wheels develop within months as grit gets into the housings, which sit very close to the ground on this design.
Likely fix: Clean the wheel housings and re-lubricate with silicone spray rather than an oil-based product, which attracts more grit. Doona publish their own procedure for this, which suggests it is routine rather than a defect. Front and rear wheels are sold as replaceable sets.
Handlebar feels loose, wobbly or shaky
A recurring complaint that the telescopic handle has noticeable play. Doona say some movement is by design because the handle rotates between car seat and stroller positions.
Likely fix: There is no user adjustment to tighten. If movement is beyond normal it is a Doona support or warranty case, and the assembled handle is sold as a complete spare part with a published replacement procedure.
Canopy clip snapped, leaving plastic stuck in the socket
The plastic clip anchoring the hood to the shell breaks and a fragment stays lodged in the socket.
Likely fix: DIY-fixable. Remove the broken fragment first, then fit a replacement canopy and clip, both of which Doona sell.
Brake pedals stiff and awkward to release
The original design uses separate pedals to lock and unlock with no engaged indicator, and owners have pushed off against a partly engaged brake.
Likely fix: Clean and silicone-lubricate the pedal pivots. Doona changed this on the Doona X to a single pedal with a red and green indicator, so the complaint was effectively accepted, but there is no retrofit for older units.
SAFETY: child can wriggle out of the harness, and tipping on turns
Owners report toddlers repeatedly escaping the harness, and the trike nearly tipping on sharp turns or steep kerbs.
Likely fix: Harness escape is usually a fit problem, so reset the shoulder strap height and tighten the crotch and waist straps. If it still releases, treat it as a warranty claim rather than working around it. Tipping is a handling limitation rather than a repairable fault.
Wheels won't release/pop out from car-seat mode
A commonly reported "fault" that's usually a technique issue - the transformation mechanism needs to be tilted at the correct angle for the wheels to release properly.
Likely fix: Before assuming it's broken, check you're tilting/operating the release exactly per the manual's technique - most reported cases resolve without any part needing replacement. If the mechanism is genuinely jammed even done correctly, that's a repairer job.
