SAFETY RECALL: folding hinge can trap and injure fingers (2011-2013 units)
Britax recalled around 225,000 B-Agile and B-Agile Double pushchairs made between March 2011 and June 2013. Pressing the release button while pulling the fold strap opens a gap at the folding hinge; 8 injuries were reported including a partial fingertip amputation and a broken finger.
Likely fix: This is a recall, not a repair. Contact Britax with your model number (U341763, U341764, U341782, U341783 for singles; U361818, U361819 for doubles) for the free remedy kit of four hinge covers. Do not try to fix the hinge yourself.
Front wheel falls off in use
Owners report the front wheel detaching while pushing. The cause is the small metal locking clip inside the front wheel housing failing rather than the wheel itself wearing out.
Likely fix: The metal lock can be replaced without taking the whole wheel attachment off the frame, and there is a step-by-step video showing it. Britax UK do not stock this clip as a listed spare, so it usually comes from a Britax service centre. Stop using the buggy until the wheel locks on firmly.
Car seat drops off the chassis (Click & Go adapters)
A damaged Click & Go receiver mount has allowed an attached infant car seat to fall suddenly from the chassis, which led to recall notices around 2017.
Likely fix: Do not attempt to repair an adapter or mount. Contact Britax for replacement parts, and check the receiver mount for damage every time before clicking a car seat on.
Front wheels wobble from new, or click constantly
Owners report front-wheel wobble straight out of the box and a persistent clicking. Britax customer services have told some owners the clicking is normal on the Smile 5z, which owners dispute.
Likely fix: Check the swivel-stem retaining clip is fully seated and the spindle is not worn. If it is genuinely just play in the swivel stem it is a design characteristic rather than a repairable fault, but get it looked at if it worsens.
Hard EVA wheels are noisy, jarring, and wear flat
The foam-filled EVA wheels behave more like hard plastic than rubber, so owners report a loud, jerky ride on cobbles and rough pavement, and the tread flattening with use.
Likely fix: Replacement is the only real cure, but Britax UK spares are very limited - essentially a B-Agile Double wheel set and a basket. Single B-Agile owners usually cannot buy replacement wheels and need a repairer to fit an equivalent.
Pushchair veers off line over bumps
The paired front-wheel design tracks poorly, and owners and testers report the pushchair pulling off course over small bumps and loose stones.
Likely fix: Use the front swivel lock on uneven ground. Check the swivel housings are tight first, but if they are sound this is a design limitation rather than a fault and no part will fix it.
Squeaking from the handlebar and frame joints
Owners report squeaking both where the handle adjusts and at the chassis attachment points.
Likely fix: Use a dry PTFE or silicone lubricant on the telescoping handle joint and the chassis pivots - avoid oil, which holds grit. A squeak that persists from the main pivot can mean a worn bush, which is a repairer job.
Folding lock feels stiff or won't release smoothly (B-Agile)
Reported as needing firm, sustained pressure on the lock at the base of the frame while unfolding - it's designed that way, but can feel like a fault if the mechanism has also stiffened with age.
Likely fix: If it's always required a firm press, that may just be the design. If it's become noticeably stiffer over time, the fold-lock mechanism may need lubricating or replacing by a repairer.
Handlebar foam grip goes stiff or brittle
A cosmetic/comfort issue reported after extended use - the foam degrades with age and UV exposure.
Likely fix: A straightforward DIY fix: replacement handlebar foam covers are sold as a standalone part and don't require replacing the handlebar itself.
